Falcons Tab Jesus Flores to Lead Them into MLIS

The Illinois State Line Falcons are a new team entering a new league, but they will have an experienced voice on the bench to lead them into the 2022-23 season. Today the Falcons announced they have hired former Chicago Mustangs star goalkeeper Jesus Flores as their first Head Coach.

Flores played five years with the Mustangs in the MASL, racking up a 58-28 career record, and leading Chicago to an undefeated season and a Newman Cup Championship in 2013-14. Prior to joining the Mustangs, Flores played for Guerreros Guadalajara in Mexico's futbol rapido (indoor soccer) and Fut7 (seven-a-side) circuit.

"My goal was to play one professional indoor soccer game. I remember warming up with the team, not expecting to play, and my name was called to start," says Flores. Jesus played for Mustangs until 2017, but began his transition to coaching in 2015, coaching the Mustangs PASL affiliate. Last year, he was invited to coach the Falcons in the US Open Arena Soccer Championship along with Thomas Cahue. "As a new team, you're not expected to win any games, but Cahue and Flores made the difference," says Jose Salas, President of ISL Falcons. "Cahue couldn't be with us this year due to a prior commitment, but we thank him for the contributions he has made to our organization."

"After qualifying for the open cup but falling short in the final to Louisville Metro, we had that spark that pushed us to keep going," added Salas. "Now, we welcome Flores back with great anticipation for the upcoming season."
