First Place at Stake in All Three Divisions this Weekend

Major League Indoor Soccer has four games this weekend, and first place could be on the line in three or possibly all four of them.

Saturday January 21

Chicago Mustangs (2-1) at Omaha Kings (3-0)
Season series: 1-0 Omaha

Last weekend's game in Chicago lived up to, and even surpassed, the hype. Omaha won 9-8 on a Daniel Zuckweiler goal with 14 seconds left.  Now the Mustangs will try to even the season series in Omaha, which would pull them back into a tie for first in the Central Division.

Omaha's Manuel Lira leads MLIS in points (11) and goals (8). Michael Marchionna of the Mustangs is tied for second in goals with seven.

Cincinnati Swerve (2-1) at Rapid City FC (2-1)
Season series: 1-0 Grand Rapids

It feels like a long time since Rapid City demolished Cincinnati 8-1 in the first ever MLIS game. Now both teams are tied for first (with Cleveland) at 2-1. The Swerve have won their last two games.

Rapid City's Jacob Potts is second in MLIS with seven goals, and Cincinnati's Andrej Novakovic is fourth with seven points.

Sunday January 22

Houston Bolt (2-0) at Springfield Demize (2-1)
Season series: 0-0

This is the first two MLIS meetings between the current first and second place teams in the Southern Division. Springfield is coming off an emotional 8-7 home win over the Wichita Selection.

The Demize previously lost to Selection 11-1 in Wichita, suggesting a home-field advantage at Lake Country Soccer Complex could give Springfield an edge in these back-to-back games 17 hours apart. Springfield's Desmond Williams is third in MLIS with eight points and Moises Jacobo, Hunter Gilliam, and Luis Santillan are each among in the league's top four assist leaders.
