Fort Wayne, Indiana — Major League Indoor Soccer Extended (MLISX) continues its growth with the addition of Fort Wayne 1927 Sport Club, bringing the league to six teams.
The 1927 Sport Club is led by David Bennett, who serves as the owner, general manager and part-time coach.
“I didn’t start playing soccer until I was 18 years old when my uncle got me out to play on his team,” he said. “I quickly moved to the goalkeeper position due to my lack of field skills, but I was 6’2”, athletic and competitive.”
More than 20 years later, Bennett’s role has evolved from player to steward of the club. After the team transitioned into Fort Wayne Sport Club, Bennett became a member and eventually inherited leadership when the team’s manager relocated to California. From that point forward, Bennett knew the club was destined to compete beyond local leagues.
Now entering its fifth season in the Midwest Premier League (MWPL), 1927 Sport Club captured the Great Lakes Conference championship in 2023, and shortly after, two players signed professional contracts with the Milwaukee Wave.
“MLISX is a great opportunity for our team to play high-level indoor competition in the offseason,” Bennett said. “It allows us to challenge ourselves, evaluate new players and continue developing at a reasonable cost.”
The team will play all home matches at the Classic City Center in Indiana.
The inaugural MLISX season kicks off this weekend. Stay tuned for more information.
