Rapid City Rolls to First MLIS Win in Cincinnati

Sometimes the host is so busy worrying that everyone else is enjoying themselves that they fail to have fun at their own party. That's what happened to the Cincinnati Swerve, who hosted MLIS's inaugural game, only to suffer a lopsided 8-1 defeat by the visiting Rapid City FC at GameTime Training Center in Fairfield, Ohio Saturday night.

In a night of firsts, Cole Russell scored the first MLIS goal, which got Rapid City off to a 1-0 lead midway through the first quarter en route to their first win.

Jacob Potts scored the first MLIS hat trick. Potts also scored what would become the game winning goal, after his first notch of the game gave Rapid City a 2-0 lead. Kalu Abass answered with Cincinnati's only goal before Ricco Mulero made it 3-1 after one quarter of play.

Rapid City led 5-1 at halftime and neither team scored in the third quarter. Goalkeeper Miguel Cervantes was named the game's First Star.

Cincinnati doesn't have much time to make corrections as they host the Cleveland Crunch next Saturday. Cleveland was 12-0 last year in the regular season, when they played in M2.

Rapid City then hosts Cleveland on December 17.
