ROCKFORD FC TO JOIN MLIS MEN’S DIVISION FOR 2024-25 SEASON

July 19, 2024 - Rockford, Ill. - Rockford FC is set to join the Major League Indoor Soccer (MLIS) men's division for the upcoming season.

Since its inception in late 2019 to early 2020, Rockford FC has been a part of the Midwest Premier League. The organization is designed to be a year-round program, according to Samir Romero, Rockford FC president.

“Rockford FC is a huge believer that bringing soccer to everyone is a goal we need to persevere in achieving,” Romero said via email to the MLIS. “The sport itself develops a sense of teamwork in players, brings a healthier lifestyle for participants, and keeps our youth away from influences that could otherwise be damaging. Since year one, our goal at Rockford FC has been to develop a year-round program that encompasses all seasons and continues to build year after year.”

Romero emphasized that this vision aligns perfectly with the opportunities provided by the MLIS.

“The MILS gives us a unique opportunity to showcase how versatile soccer is, not confined to 100-yard fields outside,” Romero said. “Players in certain regions can play year-round, while others, [are] less fortunate due to weather. ... With the help of the MILS, we can bring a different opportunity for a fast-paced, yet tactical game that can be enjoyed even in the harsh winter months of the Midwest.”

The organization hopes to play its home matches at the Indoor Sports Center in Loves Park, Ill., this upcoming season. However, if that does not come to fruition, Romero said the organization will look to the BMO Center or Chicago Mustangs' home field.

“Rockford FC is extremely happy to announce the development of its indoor program,” Romero said. “We hope to capture an even greater audience that has not been able to watch this type of sport due to the weather and the lack of programs that can run during those months. The speed and tenacity of indoor soccer will appeal to many.”

Additionally, the Major League Indoor Soccer (MLIS) will award a $25,000 prize for each of its men's and women's division championship winners, totaling $50,000 for the 2024-2025 season*.
