THE WEEK THAT WAS 12/7: Orlando, Toronto and Pittsburgh Secure Wins

The fifth match week in the Major League Indoor Soccer (MLIS) started on Dec. 13 with three evening matchups and continued Sunday with two matches. 

Below is a breakdown of the weekend. 

Lansing Red Cedar vs. Pittsburgh Bridge City - 12.13

Pittsburgh claimed a 6–2 victory over Lansing Saturday evening. Jamie Luchini opened the scoring midway through the first quarter, giving Pittsburgh a 1–0 lead after one. The teams traded goals in the second, with Gabriel Norris extending Pittsburgh’s lead before Lansing answered on a power-play finish by Youssef Bitar to make it 2–1 at halftime.

The second half belonged to Pittsburgh with power-play tallies from Joshua Dimatteo and Luchini. Anthony Rowan and Marquis Flowers further stretched Pittsburgh’s lead. Lansing added a late goal from Cody Granville, but Pittsburgh capitalized on key opportunities to secure a 6–2 win. The teams finished nearly even in shots (31–30).

Rockford Thunder vs. Toronto Canadian Crusaders - 12.13

Toronto shut out Rockford 11–0 Saturday. Toronto struck twice in the opening period, with goals from Tim Mahabir and Sebastián López, and never let up. The pressure continued in the second quarter as Yonis Jama and Chris Duenas extended the lead to 4–0 at halftime, while Toronto outshot Rockford 16–7 through the first two periods.

Toronto poured in three goals in the third quarter and four more in the fourth, with López, Duenas, Jama and Darius Kerr-Cooper each finding the back of the net multiple times. Rockford struggled to generate offense, finishing with just 13 shots, while Toronto totaled 32.

Orlando Atletico Pro vs. Boulder United - 12.13

Orlando traveled out west to take on Boulder Saturday evening and came out on top. The back-and-forth match ended with Orlando taking the win 8-4.

Rockford Thunder vs. Toronto Canadian Crusaders - 12.14

Toronto continued its winning streak Sunday with a 12–5 win over Rockford. Toronto jumped out to a 4–1 advantage in the opening quarter with goals from Mahabir, Leaford AllenYevhenii Zaiets and Kerr-Cooper. The momentum only grew in the second quarter, as Toronto scored six goals to take a 10–2 lead into halftime. 

Rockford found the net three more times in the second half, including two penalty-kick conversions by Emanuel Mercado, who scored four goals for Rockford. Toronto added two more goals in the third quarter from Osman Hussein and Jason Alvarado to push the lead to 12–3 before locking things down defensively in the fourth.

Toronto is currently leading the North Conference with a 4-0 record.

Orlando Atletico Pro vs. Dallas CD La Cuadra - 12.14

Following Orlando's 8-4 win over Boulder, the team traveled to Dallas and came out with a 12-2 win. Orlando finished the weekend 2-0 and is leading the South Conference with a 5-1 record.
