The Week That Was 2/3: Toronto, Ft. Wayne and Amarillo Secure Wins
This past weekend, Summit City United (Ft. Wayne, Ind.) clinched fifth place in league standings with a victory over the Chicago Mustangs (Chicago, Ill.). Meanwhile, the Amarillo Bombers (Amarillo, Texas) held onto second place with a 6-1 record and a win over the Omaha Kings (Omaha, Neb.), and the Canadian Crusaders (Toronto, Ontario) remained in third at 8-3 with a win over the Chicago Panathinaikos (Chicago PAO).
Amarillo vs. Omaha
Amarillo took the lead early with a goal from Emanuel Celaya and responded to Omaha’s equalizer with a goal from Juan Munguia. The Bombers increased their lead in the second quarter, scoring four more goals, including a shootout goal from David Trevizo and a power play goal from Christian Segura, giving them a 6-2 lead at halftime.
In the third quarter, Amarillo extended their lead with goals from Darren Mitchell, Adrian Miller, Juan Carrasco and Julio Molina. Omaha managed to score twice, but Amarillo answered each time. Cleber Rodriguez and Celaya added two more in the final period before Omaha scored two late goals. Earlier this season, Omaha handed Amarillo its only loss in overtime (OT).
Chicago vs. Ft. Wayne
Summit City United defeated the Chicago Mustangs in OT Saturday. The Mustangs were led by Nestor Dominguez, Eduardo Nava and Dario Gamboa, each scoring twice, while Gerardo Perez added one more. Despite their efforts, Chicago was unable to hold off Summit City United, who had a balanced offensive attack with seven players contributing to the scoresheet.
Sam Dolobaique scored twice for Summit City United, while Myles Mitchem, Bernardo Coehlo, Todd Mizicko, Ty Barnes, Brenden Flannell and Edoardo Moretti each added one goal. The game went into OT after a tight regulation period, with Summit City securing the win.
Chicago PAO vs. Toronto
Toronto defeated Chicago PAO 3-7. For Chicago PAO, Angel Barriga, Lamilki Nourridine and Jorge Ochoa each scored a goal. For Toronto, Ramzey Hassan and Hassan Elsheikh each scored twice, while Estevan Carles and Yonis Jama added one goal each.
