THE WEEK THAT WAS: Cleveland Crunch and Chicago Mustangs Secure Wins
Chicago, Ill - Match week two in the Major League Indoor soccer saw matchups between the Cleveland Crunch (Cleveland, Ohio) and Summit City United (Fort Wayne, Ind.) and Omaha Kings FC (Omaha, Neb.) and Chicago Mustangs (Chicago, Ill.).
On Saturday, the Crunch advanced to 1-0, while Summit City fell to 0-1. The Kings and the Mustangs are now both at 1-1.
Crunch Secures the Win
Saturday’s match featured goals from nine Crunch players, with Admir Suljevic leading the charge with five goals and two assists.
Suljevic opened the scoring early into the game. Additional first-quarter goals from Boban Cancar, Parker Csiszar, Bryan Wolanski and Omar Najjar gave the Crunch a 6-0 lead at the end of the first. In the second quarter, Suljevic added two more goals—one from a penalty kick and another assisted by Najjar—making it 8-0 at halftime.
The third quarter saw contributions from team captain Dave Jordan (two goals), Antonio Manfut, MaCain Spragling and Minick, extending the lead to 13-0. In the fourth quarter, Najjar, Minick and Suljevic scored again, with Suljevic finishing the night with five goals. Summit City United secured a late goal.
Mustangs Takes the Win
Chicago defeated Omaha 10-8 Saturday night. The Mustangs took control early with Gabriel Jurado scoring twice and Jose Ibarra adding another to secure a 3-0 lead. Omaha's Manuel Lira responded, ending the first period at 3-1. Omaha narrowed the gap in the second period with Leonides Mejia's goal, but Chicago extended their lead with a goal from Jonathan Jaramillo and a shootout by Nestor Dominguez. Lira kept Omaha in the game with his second goal, but Chicago maintained a 6-3 advantage by the period's end.
In the third period, Omaha's Ali Sodal struck early to make it 6-4, but Jurado completed his hat trick. Despite a power-play goal from Sodal, Ajdin Sabanovic’s strike pushed Chicago to 8-5. Omaha’s persistence showed in the fourth period with goals from Otan Orrey, Lira and Mejia, but Chicago sealed the win with late goals from Gerardo Perez and Jurado, who finished with four goals.
The game featured several penalties, including a red card for Chicago’s Jose Ibarra and a yellow card for Omaha’s Bobby Jaffery.
