Major League Indoor Soccer Takes Major Step with Acquisition of National Indoor Soccer League

In a groundbreaking development poised to reshape the landscape of indoor soccer in the United States, the National Indoor Soccer League (NISL) proudly announces its merger into the Major League Indoor Soccer (MLIS), effective immediately. This integration marks a significant milestone for indoor soccer, with the MLIS inheriting the entirety of the NISL, adding six additional teams to its men’s, and recently added women's divisions. Both teams will finish out their 2023-24 seasons as planned.

Established in 2022, the MLIS currently boasts six men’s teams for its 2023-24 season: Cleveland OH (Crunch), Omaha NE (Kings), Grand Rapids MI (Rapid City), Denver CO (Colorado Bucks), Chicago IL (Mustangs) and Lima OH (Ohio Extreme).

The NISL was founded in January 2021 by a group of seasoned sports team and league owners with over 50 years of ownership experience and currently includes a roster of six teams: Albany GA (Aces), Orland FL (Central Florida Crusaders), Fayetteville NC (Fury), Pelham AL (Magic City SC), Tampa Bay FL (Strikers), and Columbus GA, (Foundry FC), each competing in both men's and women's divisions.

This strategic move follows closely on the heels of the MLIS' recent announcement on March 12, unveiling plans for a Women’s League set to debut in the 2024-25 season. The league recently welcomed Kalamazoo MI (Zoo City FC) from the Premier Arena Soccer League as the inaugural team committed to the MLIS women’s division.

The merger represents a strategic alignment of shared values and visions, as both leagues are committed to advancing the growth and development of indoor soccer across the nation.

Dominic Tourcette, MLIS commissioner, emphasized the significance of this milestone, “This marks a pivotal moment for the MLIS. We are enthusiastic about our expansion plans, which include a southern division and a dedicated women’s league, aimed at fostering soccer growth across various states."

As the indoor soccer community eagerly anticipates the culmination of the NISL season and embraces the dawn of a new era with MLIS, stakeholders can expect a seamless transition that prioritizes the integrity of the sport and the interests of all involved parties.
