MLIS Goes International, Welcomes Canadian Crusaders from Toronto

Chicago, Illinois, August 5, 2024 - Major League Indoor Soccer (MLIS) announced today its expansion into international territory with the introduction of the Canadian Crusaders, based in Toronto. This marks a significant milestone as MLIS welcomes its first non-U.S. team, setting the stage for a new era of cross-border competition.

The Canadian Crusaders, formerly known as the “Florida Crusaders,” were part of the National Indoor Soccer League (NISL), which merged with the MLIS in late March. Luigi Dr Serio, Canadian Crusaders owner, says moving the team to the northern market was a logical step and he anticipates the league's growth alongside its Canadian counterparts.

“We are excited about the opportunity for friendly competition against cross-border rival teams!” he says.

Di Serio says the organization is in discussions with several venues in the Toronto area and expects to finalize a home venue soon.

He says the organization's long-term vision includes becoming a household name in professional indoor soccer across Ontario and Canada. The team aims to contribute to the growth of the sport by fostering partnerships with other regional teams and eventually establishing a developmental (farm) league under the MLIS format.

Additionally, the organization aspires to introduce a women's professional team to the league in the future.

The MLIS expansion into Canada represents its mission to broaden the reach and popularity of professional indoor soccer.
